
Elizabeth Bothamley Rex, Th.D. (cand.), Ph.D., M.B.A
Associate ScholarDr. Elizabeth Rex is a Catholic Bioethicist with an expertise in beginning-of-life bioethical issues including the authoritative teachings of the Catholic Church regarding Assisted Reproductive Techniques (ART). Dr. Rex received her B.A. degree from Barnard College (Columbia University), her M.A. and Ph.D. in Philosophy (Thomistic Ethics) from the University of Navarre, her M.B.A. from Baruch’s School of Business (City University of New York) and is currently pursuing a doctorate in Theology at Pontifex University.
Dr. Rex is the Co-Founder and President of The Children First Foundation, dedicated to raising greater public awareness and much-needed funding for pregnancy care centers that help pregnant women choose life and consider adoption as a positive pro-life choice. Her professional career includes working and teaching in several prestigious colleges, universities, and seminaries including Barnard College, Columbia University, St. Joseph’s Seminary (Archdiocese of New York), Sacred Heart University (CT), and Holy Apostles College & Seminary (CT) where she taught Catholic Bioethics and Medical Ethics to seminarians and graduate students for many years.
Dr. Rex has researched and published many scholarly articles in the National Catholic Bioethics Quarterly regarding the magisterial liceity of both embryo transfer and embryo adoption. Dr. Rex is a frequent national speaker regarding the difficult ethical issues involved with IVF and ARTs, and she is a strong advocate for promoting national and international laws that will promote ethical healthcare for fertility patients as well as legal protection for human embryos from the moment of conception.
Dr. Rex is the Founder and President of The Donum Vitae Institute, an international bioethics center that is dedicated to defending nascent humanity from the first moment of fertilization as taught by the Catholic Church in its major Instructions Donum Vitae (1987) and Dignitas Personae (2008).
