Mayra Jimenez Thompson, M.D., F.A.C.O.G
Associate ScholarDr. Thompson is a board-certified Ob-gyn specializing in general gynecology, minimally invasive and robotic surgery, urogynecology and pelvic reconstructive surgery. She is trained and certified in advanced laparoscopic and minimally invasive procedures.
Dr. Thompson obtained her Bachelor of Arts in Economics from Northwestern University and Doctor of Medicine from the University of Illinois, Abraham Lincoln School of Medicine. She completed her internship and residency in Obstetrics & Gynecology at the University of Illinois Research Hospital located in the University of Illinois Medical Center in Chicago.
After completion of her training, Dr. Thompson moved to Texas where she began her private practice in 1984. She was subsequently recruited to serve as Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology at UT Southwestern where she practiced at the university-affiliated hospitals and institutions, seeing private patients at the Lowe Foundation Center for Women’s preventative Health Care from 2004-2021.
Dr. Thompson and her husband have been active in the pro-life community for almost 40 years. She has provided education in bioethics to the community at large, high school students and their educators, as well as seminarians and supervisory ministers. Her interest in the health and welfare of women has prompted her to seek advances in legislative regulation of abortion services. She testified on behalf of the Texas Attorney General to the committee of the House of Representatives during initial consideration of pro-life legislation protecting pain-capable children from abortion, and in subsequent testimony to the Court of Appeals. Dr. Thompson also wrote an amicus brief on the regulatory guidelines of the abortion drug mifepristone. Her video testimony was presented to the Texas legislature in support of continued regulation of this drug. She has also actively promoted education of women on the short and long-term complications of elective abortion. She has been a featured speaker giving testimony on the challenges facing pro-life Ob-Gyns. She is fluent in Spanish and speaks some French.
Dr. Mayra and her husband have four grown children, and an increasing number of grandchildren.
