Mia Steupert, M.A.
Research AssociateMia Steupert serves as Research Associate at the Charlotte Lozier Institute, where she focuses on conducting research on abortion statistics at the national and state levels and how changing legislative environments in the states impact abortion provision and data.
Prior to joining CLI, Mia was a research intern at a conservative think tank where she focused on the inner workings of Planned Parenthood and sexuality legislation at the federal and state levels. Mia also interned at the Institute on Religion and Democracy where she wrote articles for their blog on politics and the Catholic Church.
Mia holds an MA in Government with a concentration in law and policy from Regent University with honors and a BA, cum laude with distinction, in Political Science from Emmanuel College. Mia has completed two thesis papers- a graduate thesis on Catholic sexual ethics and an undergraduate thesis on the American nuclear family and government policy and is a member of the Pi Sigma Alpha and Kappa Gamma Pi honor societies.
In her free time, Mia likes to play softball and golf, read and write about Catholic theology, cook, and be with friends and family.

Abortion Reporting: Pennsylvania (2022)
Pennsylvania’s 2022 abortion report was published online by the Pennsylvania Department of Health in December 2023. The report shows that abortions increased from the previous year.
Abortion Reporting: Idaho (2022)
The Idaho Department of Health and Welfare released their annual vital statistics report, showing that abortions declined in 2022 from the previous year.
Abortion Reporting: Arizona (2022)
Arizona’s 2022 abortion report was published online by the Arizona Department of Health Services in December 2023.
Abortion Reporting: District of Columbia (2021)
Abortion data for the District of Columbia (D.C.) is available in the U.S. Centers for Disease Control’s (CDC) 2021 abortion surveillance report. D.C. continues to have one of the highest abortion rates in the country.
Abortion Reporting: Washington (2021)
The State of Washington has not released its 2021 resident abortion total on its Pregnancy and Abortion Dashboard. However, Washington provided some abortion data to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) which included it in its 2021 abortion surveillance report.

New Mexico has not released a vital statistics report since September 2021, when a report covering 2019 data was published. However, New Mexico shared some abortion data with the United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) for inclusion in its 2021 abortion surveillance report. The data analyzed here is from the CDC’s 2021 report.

Hawaii abortion reporting is delayed, but 2021 abortion statistics are available in the latest national report from the United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

Tennessee’s 2021 abortion statistics have not yet been released on the website of the Tennessee Department of Health, but the state provided abortion totals and some demographic information to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) for inclusion in the CDC’s 2021 abortion surveillance report. The data analyzed within this report is from the CDC’s 2021 report.

Rhode Island’s 2021 abortion statistics have not yet been published by the state but are available in the 2021 abortion surveillance report from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

Virginia’s 2021 abortion facility statistics were provided to the Charlotte Lozier Institute (CLI) upon request. However, Virginia’s full 2021 state abortion report has not been published online.
