Charlotte Lozier Institute Adds Three New Women Associate Scholars

Charlotte Lozier Institute (CLI), the research and education arm of the national pro-life group Susan B. Anthony List, has added three women legal experts to the ranks of its associate scholars team.

“Kelly Hollowell, Jeanneane Maxon, and Kristi Burton Brown have already made marked contributions to the pro-life movement through their writing, research, and speaking. The Charlotte Lozier Institute is honored to welcome these highly accomplished legal experts to our list of scholars covering the most pressing life-related issues of the day,” said Chuck Donovan, president of Charlotte Lozier Institute.

CLI boasts more than two dozen associate scholars who research, write, and speak on a wide variety of life issues including abortion, women’s health, prenatal diagnosis and treatment for the unborn, perinatal hospice, abortion reporting policy, sex-selection abortion, stem cell research and medicine, and health care policy.

Kelly Hollowell
Dr. Kelly Hollowell, Ph.D., J.D.

 

Dr. Hollowell is an innovative legal, scientific and technology analyst with a passion for emerging technologies and their associated applications.  Her practice as a patent attorney covers a wide range of services from early stage business strategy and protection through licensing and defense.  Dr. Hollowell is an accomplished scientist with broad base training and a Ph.D. in molecular and cellular pharmacology.  She has worked on a wide range of technologies including: renewable energy systems; medical products and devices; acoustical systems; aerospace devices; health and beauty products; pediatric nutrition; pharmaceutical testing processes and sport-therapy equipment.

Dr. Hollowell is also an experienced communicator with demonstrated versatility in mediums including law review, legislative writings, scientific journals, television and Internet outlets.  One of her strengths is that she is able to quickly assimilate complex theories and effectively share them with large and small groups regardless of their technical background.

Dr. Hollowell sat by appointment, for three consecutive years, on the Joint Subcommittee Studying Stem Cell Research and Medical Ethics for the Virginia General Assembly; was named one of “Virginia’s Rising Stars” by publisher Law & Politics; and was the recipient of the 2011 Leadership Award from the Hampton Roads Chamber of Commerce.

Jeanneane Maxon, JD
Jeanneane Maxon, J.D.

With almost 10 years of executive level non-profit leadership, Jeanneane Maxon, J.D. currently serves as a non-profit law and compliance consultant based out of Dallas, Texas, primarily serving pro-life clients and pro-life pregnancy centers. Jeanneane is an attorney and nationally recognized speaker and pro-life advocate.    From 2012 through 2015, she served as Vice President of External Affairs and Corporate Counsel for Americans United for Life (AUL), the legal architects of the pro-life movement and the first national pro-life organization in the United States. In this role, she oversaw the communications, development, operations, and coalition departments of AUL. From 2008 through 2011, Jeanneane served as the General Counsel of Care Net, a pregnancy center affiliation network with over 1200 pregnancy center members.  In this role, she oversaw the legal education and advocacy program for the largest network of pregnancy centers in the nation, successfully leading pregnancy center through numerous advocacy battles and attacks from Planned Parenthood and NARAL Pro-Choice America.   An avid spokesperson on Life issues, Jeanneane frequently appears in media, including  a Christian Broadcast Network feature story on pro-life pregnancy center advocacy airing on “The 700 Club,” ABC World News Tonight with Diane SawyerThe Mike Huckabee Show, and the New York Times among others.

 

She has also been widely published in print media including the Daily CallerChristian Science Monitor, Times, Real, and the Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission.  She has been actively involved in pro-life legislative battles, and has been called to testify before dozens of state legislative bodies. Jeanneane is in high demand as a keynote speaker for pro-life public awareness events, having presented before over 50 of such events with audiences typically ranging from 300 to 1500 attendees.

Also serving as an educator on legal issues, Jeanneane has lectured in law schools and at numerous national conferences hosted by a range of non-profit organizations, including Care Net, the American Association of Christian Counselors, and Heartbeat, as well as dozens of webinars and regional workshops.  Jeanneane co-authored a 600+ page manual entitled Legal Solutions: A Legal Resource for Life-Affirming Pregnancy Help Organizations, which remains the most widely used resource in the Pregnancy Care Center movement.  Jeanneane also served as faculty for two curriculums for the American Association of Christian Counselors, Introduction to Crisis Pregnancy Care and Caring for People God’s Way.

Additionally, from 2012 through 2015, Jeanneane has served as an Associate editor of Defending Life, an annual publication surveying pro-life progress and climate in the United States.   For forty publications, Jeanneane also served as the primary author and Editor in-Chief of Legal Care, a monthly legal newsletter for pro-life pregnancy support organizations. In college she authored an award winning college thesis entitled Richard Nixon’s Rapprochement with China, 1969-1972: An Important Yet Overly Praised Step in American Foreign Policy.

Jeanneane actively serves in pro-life and professional leadership. She is an Advisory Board member for the Texas Center for Defense of Life, for the Care Net Pregnancy and Family Services of Puget Sound, and for the Care Net Pregnancy Center of Greater Concord. She is Secretary of the Board of Directors for the Restoration Project, a board member for the Abortion Free Communities Project, a member of the Christian Legal Society, the State Bar Association of New Hampshire, and is an allied attorney with the Alliance Defense Fund.  In 2014, she served on the revision committee for the AACC Christian Counseling Code of Ethics. From 2008 through 2011, Jeanneane was a Board member and Board Secretary for Americans United for Life.

Jeanneane interned for Justice Robert Cordy of the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court and for Benton then of the Supreme Court of Missouri. She practiced as a commercial litigation attorney at Devine, Millimet and Branch in Manchester, New Hampshire.

She has a Bachelor of Science in Political Science and History from Westminster College, graduating summa cum laud with a perfect 4.0 GPA, and a law degree from Boston University School of Law, graduating cum laude.  At Westminster College she was named a Winston Churchill Scholar, and a Dean’s Scholar at Boston University School of Law.

Kristi Burton Brown, J.D.
Kristi Burton Brown, J.D.

Kristi Burton Brown is a constitutional attorney, licensed in the State of California and admitted to the 10th Circuit Court of Appeals. She specializes in pro-life legal research and writing, and has worked on pro-bono projects for Life Legal Defense Foundation, Live Action, Child Evangelism Fellowship’s parent organization, and Alliance Defending Freedom. Kristi currently works as a journalist and editor for Live Action News, and is an op-ed contributor to The Christian Post. Kristi has been involved in politics for over a decade, working on Congressman Doug Lamborn’s inaugural campaign and as the co-sponsor and spokesperson for the nation’s first Personhood Amendment in Colorado. In her role as spokesperson, Kristi was featured and quoted in national outlets including U.S. News & World Report, Newsweek, and The Washington Post; she has also appeared on multiple radio and TV shows. Kristi currently resides in Colorado with her husband and two children.
