Washington D.C.—The Charlotte Lozier Institute, the nation’s premier research and education institute on pro-life issues, welcomes its new executive director, Karen M. Czarnecki, a seasoned non-profit and government leader.
“Karen has deep roots and experience that span policy and academic worlds and all sectors of federal government for three decades,” said Marjorie Dannenfelser, president of Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America. “She has stepped up to lead and navigate those worlds at a critical, turning point for science in support of women and children.”
“At this pivotal time in our nation, I am humbled to join the dedicated staff of the Charlotte Lozier Institute in promoting educational research in the defense of life,” said Czarnecki. “Providing scientific, fact-based, reliable research on life issues for policymakers and opinion leaders is critical if we wish to promote a culture of life and advance policies that are life-affirming for women and their children.”
Czarnecki’s extensive public policy career includes her most recent role as vice president of outreach for the Mercatus Center at George Mason University, where she was responsible for all government relations and external affairs activity for the organization’s priority research issues. She also served as the director of education at the Law & Economics Center (LEC) at George Mason University’s Antonin Scalia Law School where she oversaw executive education for federal and state court judges, state attorneys general and their staffs, as well as a congressional staff education program on legal reform.
In over two decades in the public policy field, Czarnecki has served as a congressional chief of staff and a senior-level outreach and communications adviser. Her roles in the federal government have included serving as acting assistant secretary and deputy assistant secretary for a Cabinet-level agency. Earlier in her career, she served in policy roles in the White House for two administrations.
For over a decade, she has taught a public policy seminar as an adjunct professor at George Mason University for The Fund for American Studies. Czarnecki earned her BA and JD from The Catholic University of America.
Charlotte Lozier Institute was launched in 2011 as the education and research arm of Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America. CLI is a hub for research and public policy analysis on some of the most pressing issues facing the United States and nations around the world. The Institute is named for a feminist physician known for her commitment to the sanctity of human life and equal career and educational opportunities for women.
