Report Reveals Public Funds Key Driver in Planned Parenthood’s Abortion Business
The Nation’s Largest Abortion Seller’s Annual Revenue Exceeds $2 Billion
Washington D.C.—A new Charlotte Lozier Institute analysis of publicly available funding sources for Planned Parenthood demonstrates the business prioritizes abortion above all else. A “nonprofit” and the nation’s largest abortion seller, Planned Parenthood’s annual revenue exceeds $2 billion.
This study examined Planned Parenthood’s government funding from Centers for Medicare and Medicaid, Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP), U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), Paycheck Protection Program administered by the Small Business Administration, as well as disclosed private donors and foundations.
Of its $2 billion in revenue, almost $700 million (34%) came from government health services reimbursements and grants. Despite the Hyde Amendment, HHS gave $1.535 billion to Planned Parenthood through grants or cooperative agreements from Medicaid/CHIP and $3.28 million from Medicare over three years in the latest public data.
Planned Parenthood’s overall revenue increased by over $400 million since fiscal year 2019-2020. At the same time, their non-abortion services have rapidly declined while abortions increased. Since 2010, Planned Parenthood’s total cancer screening and prevention services have dropped by 71%, including declines of 72% for breast exams and 74% for pap tests, and prenatal services are down 80% from a record high in 2009.
Jeanneane Maxon, associate scholar at CLI and author of the study, said:
“This study reveals how Planned Parenthood has become a financial juggernaut, propped up by government funding, while prioritizing abortion over quality care to women. It’s deeply troubling that an organization with a documented history of substandard ‘services’ continues to receive public trust and funding. We need to support real health care alternatives that respect life and dignity.”
