Louisiana’s 2022 abortion report was published by the Louisiana Department of Health in June 2023. Parish and clinic data were provided to Charlotte Lozier Institute (CLI) by the Department of Health upon request. The report shows that abortions decreased markedly from 2021.

Louisiana’s 2021 abortion report was published by the Louisiana Department of Health in June 2023. The data published on the Department’s website is marked as preliminary, but CLI was able to confirm via email correspondence with Department officials that the data is final. The report shows that abortions slightly decreased from 2020.

As of April 21, 2022, 42 states have introduced a total of 417 pro-life bills (or bills containing at least one pro-life provision) in 2022 or the current legislative session. This includes 273 bills introduced in 2022, and 144 bills introduced in 2020-2021 for the current legislative session. These bills contain a total of more than 600 pro-life provisions.

Legislative and Litigation Overview of 20-Week Abortion Laws

Since January 2010, twenty-three states have enacted statutes prohibiting abortion at 20 weeks of pregnancy. All but one of these laws make at least some explicit reference to fetal pain in either the legislative title, legislative findings, statement of legislative purpose or intent, or some combination of these elements. Evidence shows that unborn children can feel pain by 20 weeks, or five months, of pregnancy and even earlier.
