The statistics given to CLI also included 2019 statistics; however, this report focuses mainly on 2020 data, with some 2019 data included in Figures 1 and 2.

Abortion Reporting: New Jersey (2018)

There were 22,936 abortions reported in New Jersey in 2018, up seven percent from the previous year. However, because not all New Jersey abortion centers are required to report abortions, this figure significantly undercounts the number of abortions that actually occurred in the state. Chemical abortions also increased, nearly doubling from 3,802 in 2017 to 7,437 in 2018, although it is likely that a sizable number of chemical abortions were not reported.

New Jersey Legalizes Physician-Assisted Suicide, New York Could Follow

The 2019 legislative session has been a busy time for physician-assisted suicide activists and their adversaries. In the first three and a half months of 2019 alone, 20 states introduced legislation to legalize or expand physician-assisted suicide. Of those states, 11 defeated legislation and one, New Jersey, legalized assisted suicide. Nine states still have active legislation.

Abortion Reporting: New Jersey (2016)

New Jersey’s 2016 abortion report shows that abortions in the state have increased. However, abortion reporting in the state is not mandatory for all abortion providers, meaning that abortions in the Garden State are underreported. New Jersey does not publish its abortion report online but made it available to the Charlotte Lozier Institute upon request.
