Tessa Longbons

Senior Research Associate

Tessa Longbons is Senior Research Associate at Charlotte Lozier Institute, where her research focuses on abortion statistics at the state and national levels and the changing landscape of abortion policy, provision, and access in the United States.

Tessa has appeared on CBN News and EWTN News Nightly and has testified before Members of Congress on the Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act.  Her work has been featured by National Review OnlineNewsweekThe Gospel Coalition, Fox News, The Daily Signal, and many other national media outlets.  She has contributed to peer-reviewed research on women’s experiences with chemical abortion and the impact of abortion on women enrolled in Medicaid.

Originally from Illinois, Tessa earned a BA in Communications from Thomas Edison State University.  Prior to joining CLI, she got her start in pro-life research with the Family Research Council.

Abortion Reporting: Missouri (2018)

A record low 2,910 abortions were reported as occurring in Missouri in 2018, down more than 25 percent from the previous year. Chemical abortions fell by an even greater margin, dropping 66 percent from 1,062 in 2017 to just 359 in 2018.

Georgia abortion statistics for 2018 were made available online in August 2019. Abortions performed on Georgia residents increased between 2017 and 2018.

Abortion Reporting: Delaware (2018)

Delaware’s 2018 abortion report, published online by the Delaware Department of Health and Social Services in December 2019, shows that abortions in the state continue to decline. There were 1,684 abortions reported in Delaware in 2018, down 11 percent from the 1,890 reported the previous year.

Kansas published its preliminary 2018 abortion report in April 2019 and released the final report in November 2019. The report shows that abortions in the Sunflower State increased from the year before.

Ohio’s annual abortion report for 2018 was published in October 2019 by the Ohio Department of Health. The report shows that abortions fell in 2018 after increasing slightly the year before.

North Carolina’s abortion statistics for 2018 were published on the website of the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services in September 2019. Abortions increased slightly from 2017 to 2018.

Minnesota’s annual abortion report for 2018 was published online by the Minnesota Department of Health in July 2019. The report shows that abortions in the state fell from the total reported in 2017.

New York’s annual abortion report for 2017 was published by the New York Department of Health and Mental Hygiene in August 2019. The report shows that abortions in the Empire State declined from the previous year.

Abortion Reporting: Arizona (2018)

Arizona’s annual abortion report for 2018 shows that total abortions in the Grand Canyon State experienced little change between 2017 and 2018. However, the makeup of abortion procedures used in the state continued to show a significant increase – almost 10 percent – in the number of abortions performed by chemical means. The report was published online by the Arizona Department of Health Services in October 2019.

New Jersey’s annual abortion report for 2017 was provided to the Charlotte Lozier Institute by the New Jersey Department of Health and Senior Services. The state report shows a decline in abortion but includes less than half the abortions performed in the state.
