Community Impact: New Jersey Pro-Life Pregnancy Centers Served 35,138 in 2019
New Report Highlights Grassroots Support for New Jersey Mothers, Youth, and Families
Washington, D.C. – Pro-life pregnancy centers in New Jersey served 35,138 women, men, youth, and families in 2019, providing free services and materials valued at nearly $3 million, according to a new report from Charlotte Lozier Institute produced in partnership with Care Net, a national provider network.
Support included 5,614 free ultrasounds performed by registered nurses or medical sonographers and 9,341 free pregnancy tests. Most abortion facilities charge women for similar services. According to new research published recently in the journal Contraception, the median price for a pregnancy test at an abortion center is $24, and the median price for an ultrasound at an abortion center is just over $162.
Genevieve Plaster, Senior Editor at Lozier Institute and lead author of several reports on both pro-life pregnancy centers and Planned Parenthood financials, said:
“Pro-life pregnancy centers in New Jersey offer meaningful support to women facing difficult circumstances. Abortion facilities see those same women as a moneymaking opportunity. There are more than 500 volunteers and 100 staff members at New Jersey pro-life pregnancy centers who believe that women are more than strong enough and who come alongside these brave women with helping hands and open hearts. Pro-life pregnancy centers are about empowering women.”
The nearly $3 million in 2019 support for New Jersey mothers and families includes:
- 9,341 free pregnancy tests (abortion centers charge an average of $24)
- 5,614 free ultrasounds performed by registered nurses or medical sonographers (abortion centers charge an average of $162)
- 788 clients received free after-abortion support and recovery counseling
- 6,985 free packs of diapers
- 42,656 free new or gently used baby clothing outfits
- 114 free new car seats
- 130 free new or gently used strollers
Lozier Institute President Charles A. “Chuck” Donovan said:
“These aren’t just statistics. These are tangible expressions of a community’s love for women and families who are vulnerable, hurting, or confused. These are tangible expressions of a community’s love for incredibly courageous and strong women who need someone to believe in them and provide them with support to achieve their goals. In a time of great uncertainty, pro-life pregnancy centers in New Jersey are igniting points of light in the darkness.”
The estimated support does not include the value of housing and monetary assistance provided when clients are referred to local churches, community organizations, and other agencies.
