Lozier Institute Calls on Parade Magazine to Apologize to Jessa Duggar and Every Other Mother Who Has Miscarried a Child

Magazine Places Pro-Abortion Ideology Over Basic Human Empathy

Washington, D.C.Lozier Institute today called on Parade Magazine to apologize to Jessa Duggar Seewald and the millions of women who have walked through the valley of miscarriage, which the magazine chose to conflate with the intentional killing of an unborn child.

Dr. Ingrid Skop, M.D., FACOG, who has delivered more than 5,000 babies and supported thousands of women during pregnancy loss, said:

Parade chose to misrepresent Jessa Duggar Seewald’s tragic pregnancy loss and in doing so rekindled the hurt, sadness and grief experienced by thousands of women, their partners, and their families every year.  Parade’s decision places the online media outlet’s pro-abortion ideology over basic human empathy.  There is nothing pro-woman about their coverage.

“Over the past 30 years, I’ve walked with many patients through similar tragic circumstances.  I know this pain all too well, as I, too, have miscarried a child.  I understand intimately the pain of her loss and pray for her emotional healing.

“Jessa’s video clearly describes a spontaneous, or natural, miscarriage.  Parade equated that tragedy with an induced abortion, which is the intentional killing of an unborn child.  Although the procedures for treating a miscarriage and performing an induced abortion are often the same, most Americans know that the two actions are vastly different morally, psychologically, and emotionally.

Parade owes a public apology to Jessa Duggar Seewald and all the mothers and fathers who have lost children due to the tragedy of miscarriage.”

Dr. Skop is an OB/GYN who practices in Texas.  She serves as senior fellow and director of medical affairs at Charlotte Lozier Institute.

Chuck Donovan, president of Charlotte Lozier Institute, added:

“The gross insensitivity of Parade and other mainstream media outlets shows that claims of being ‘pro-woman’ or champions of ‘equality’ are nothing more than profit-oriented virtue signaling.  Even as Parade conflates the heartbreaking loss of a miscarriage with the intentional violence of an induced abortion, nearly 3,000 community-based pro-life pregnancy centers nationwide are showing what it means to actually support women, providing incredibly effective and meaningful resources to women facing challenging pregnancies and challenging circumstances.

“We urge the mainstream media to visit pro-life pregnancy centers and witness genuine human empathy in action.”

Charlotte Lozier Institute was launched in 2011 as the education and research arm of Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America. CLI is a hub for research and public policy analysis on some of the most pressing issues facing the United States and nations around the world. The Institute is named for a feminist physician known for her commitment to the sanctity of human life and equal career and educational opportunities for women.
