Sex Selection Abortion: A Worldwide and U.S. Problem

Sex selection abortions are playing a role in skewing the male-female sex ratio at birth (SRB) in dozens of countries around the world.Ā  The problem is worst in China and India where provincial and even national birth ratios evince the widespread practice of elimination of baby girls by sex selective methods including abortion, preimplantation sex selection in IVF, and even infanticide.

North Carolina Eugenics Restitution Cut from Budget

For months it has seemed that the recompense due to the victims of the horrific North Carolina Eugenics program was assured.Ā  The measure to award a monetary compensation to these people whose human dignity has been so grossly violated seemed only just and entertained enthusiastic support from North Carolina Governor Bev Perdue, the State House of Representative, and a large number of average North Carolingians.Ā  However, despite the outpouring of support for this measure, the compensation packages were not included in the Senateā€™s budget.

Forced Sterilizations Expose Population Control Cruelty

The government of the small central Asian country of Uzbekistan has declared 2012 ā€œThe Year of the Family.ā€Ā  As the Uzbek culture traditionally values the family, marriage, and children above all other things, this proclamation is perfectly in sync with the spirit of the people. Ā The goals of the year are to increase the number of happy families and to strengthen the institution of the family in Uzbekistan.Ā  It is an entirely worthy goal; however, it stands in stark contrast to the startling information that was released this month by the BBC.

The Dark Ladder of Logic: After-Birth Abortion

TheĀ Journal of Medical EthicsĀ (JME) is one of those highly specialized, relatively expensive publications that cater to a targeted group of professionals.Ā  Because these journals are expensive (a print/onlineĀ U.S. annual subscriptionĀ for theĀ JMEĀ is $431) and have such a very specific audience, they are rarely read by laypeople outside the professional circles they are intended to address. Unless such a journal publishes an article online endorsing infanticide.
