Will Ohio Down Syndrome Law Split the Circuit Courts, Provoke Supreme Court Review?

As the Supreme Court moves toward the end of its term having heard abortion cases involving admitting privileges and legal standing, a provocative question of potentially wide scope could be headed its way. The question is whether states may prohibit the eugenic practice of Down syndrome discrimination abortion, which occurs when an abortion is performed because a child has Down syndrome. The question has already drawn a powerful opinion from Justice Clarence Thomas, who wrote last year that the issue is still one of first impression after nearly five decades of abortion decisions.

The Coronavirus Pandemic and the Ethics of Triage

How ought we think ethically about triage and rationing during a pandemic? How do we decide which patient is given a ventilator and which goes without? Is it permissible to refuse a ventilator so that another may live, even if it means we die? Some basic principles follow, although it must be remembered that such general principles provide guidance without supplanting the needed prudential judgments of qualified and conscientiously informed authorities in concrete situations.

Charlotte Lozier Institute Responds to Claim that Aborted Baby Parts Are Needed to Develop COVID-19 Treatment

Those who advocate experimentation using body parts harvested from aborted children are shamelessly exploiting the coronavirus pandemic, playing on people’s fears at a vulnerable time so that a select few can continue to use aborted fetal tissue in their research.

New Study: Adult Stem Cells Reverse Progressive MS-like Disease

A new study published in the journal Neurology found that adult stem cells were successful in treating and reversing neuromyelitis optica, a debilitating autoimmune disease similar to multiple sclerosis (MS). This is yet another medical breakthrough for adult stem cells, as opposed to embryonic stem cells, which have no such track record.
